No one wants to deal with a copycat. But at some point, you’ll have one.

It might be another small business, that’s new and just doesn’t understand.

It might be a HUGE corporation, whose primary business model is ripping off indie artists to make a quick buck.

No matter who it is or how it happens, it’s enough to send you into a rage spiral.

When you finally reach out to an attorney to take action against your copycat, her first question is,

“Did you register this with the U.S. Copyright Office?”

She goes on to tell you that if you did, she might be interested in taking the case. But if you didn’t, you are going to pay her more than you can possibly get, so it’s probably not worth your time.

You tell her that you haven’t registered your copyrights. And hang up the phone angry that your copycat is going to get away with it.

The fact is that in the United States, your copyright is automatic. But…enforcing an unregistered copyright is incredibly difficult and expensive.

It can be overwhelming to register your copyrights

Maybe you’ve tried to register your copyrights before. Maybe you’ve done it, but weren’t 100% sure if you were doing it right.

You likely wondered,

  • What should I register?
  • How can I do it for the cheapest way possible?
  • What does all the legal terminology mean?
  • How do I register {fill in the blank} AKA the exact thing I create?
  • What’s up with this terrible website?

In the three modules of this course, you’ll be guided step-by-step and screen-by-screen through the process of registering your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office. You’ll go from not knowing what you are going to register to having a strategy for future registrations.

And if you get stuck, you’ll have our 24/7 online community to help you out!

The Modules

1

Preparation

In the first five lessons, you’ll decide what to register, if you can save yourself money by registering other work with it, and if you’ll have to mail copies of your work to the Copyright Office.

2

Creation

In the next thirteen lessons, you’ll be guided screen-by-screen through the application. Along the way, I’ll share tips and tricks for how to complete each section for various mediums and types of work.

3

Reflection

In the final two lessons, you’ll take what you learned to create a strategy to register future copyrights in the most cost-effective way possible.

The end result will be holding your copyright registration certificate in your hands!

Here’s what other creatives are saying…

Does the idea of registering your copyright intimidate you? Are you not sure you can really do it? Each of these creatives had these same fears and they now have copyright registration certificates in their hands!

Make it easier for yourself to do the legal stuff.

Unfortunately, legal people need paperwork-including those who are helping you snuff out your copycats. After learning that, I still procrastinated on filing for my copyrights, even though I knew it was really important to do.

I didn’t know the first thing about how to register my copyrights! Thank goodness I found Kiff because she walked me through step by step. She deciphers the complicated application, which has plenty of unnecessary steps. And would have otherwise confused and stressed me out. She went above and beyond, answering all of my questions in depth and pointed out tips along the way of how to make registering less of a hassle next time.

Make it easier for yourself to do the legal stuff. Let Kiff help you. Otherwise, you’ll just keep procrastinating and worrying about those lurking copycats.

30 Day No Questions Asked Refund Policy

Hype and promises abound on the Internet. And if I were in your shoes, I’d be wary too.

Which is why I’m going to put a little skin in the game.

If within the first 30 days, you decide that the artist’s Courtyard isn’t the right place to help you build a strong foundation, I’ll refund your payment.

No hoops to jump through, no worksheets to submit, no screenshots of how you participated. You just need to let me know and I’ll refund you, without any fuss.

What formats are the materials in?

The course materials are a mix of closed captioned video and text.

All of the content is available within the artist’s Courtyard community, so you’ll have 24/7 access to it. Additionally, some of the materials are available as Google Docs and PDFs so you can save them and work on them off-line.

I’m not in the US, should I take this?

While the U.S. does recognize other countries copyrights, in order to get the full benefits of U.S. Copyright Law (attorneys fees and statutory damages) you must register your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office.

So this course will allow you to register so you have the strongest protection if it’s infringed here, even if your country doesn’t require registration.

Which option should I pick?

If you don’t live in the U.S., you should pick the standalone course! And that’s because all of the resources in the artist’s Courtyard are focused on U.S. law and won’t help your business.

If you are based in the U.S., then you can pick either! The standalone version is designed for those that don’t like monthly subscriptions, only have the bandwidth to focus on this specific topic, or already have an attorney helping them with other areas of their creative business.

What’s included in my membership in the artist’s Courtyard?
